You can still find new s2000 for $28,500, that is 02's.
These cars are in great flux pricing wise as they now have great competition from other manufacturers and they are a 4 year old design.
Also remember that most owners paid well over sticker to get the car and they now are trying to make up for that in the selling price of that used vehicle. This cannot work in the deflated marketplace the s2000 is experiencing and will continue to experience on an even grander scale.
There will be many owners who will take a bath for allowing themselves to be fleeced by greedy dealers.
Buy an 02 or 03, better cars than the earlier ones.
If you look real hard you can still find new 02's.
Be careful out there!

I have "owner" under my name because I have already bought and sold one s2000. I was very excited and got a really good deal on a used '01. However, it all went downhill from the date of purchase. It took me two months, many phone calls and emails, and a lawyer to get the title from the previous owner. During that time, I found that he had lied to me about a few issues with the car. Overall, I just wasn't comfortable keeping the car. So I sold it and decided to start over.
I don't see why its any different from the guy who just bought an '02 and then found the engine had been rebuilt wanting to get a new one. I also don't see why you're intent on giving me crap for it, Colin. Clearly you and I have different views on a few issues. I'm not beating it to death and I'm not insulting you for it. I'd appreciate it if you didn't do the same to me.

I fully understand that dealers are in the business to make money, and not to give away cars. But if I'm supposed to put so much stake in their ability to put the car in perfect condition, why can't they seem to put a decent set of tires on the thing?? If I felt like a dealer was earning their profit, I would have far less problem paying for it. In addition, many of them seem intent on lying.
For example: I called a dealer in san antonio, about 75 miles away, to enquire about an s2000 they had listed for sale. According to the salesman, "oh yeah, car is in perfect shape, no body work at all" etc. I drove the hour and half down and to the dealer, only to find that five of the ten VIN stickers were missing, both the front and rear bumpers were put on cock-eyed, there were crappy welds under the hood, and the car was an absolute mess. Even after I pointed all this out to the salesman, he insisted that none of that meant the car had been in an accident. So I wasted 3 hours of driving and an afternoon to be lied to. Twice.
Anyway, I'm tired of beating a dead horse here. We've all expressed our opinions. I agree with some. I disagree with others. Such is life.
