If cold air access enhances horsepower, then perhaps the quickest, easiest, and very inexpensive modification is to remove the air conditioning access cover in front of the radiator. The underside of the hood by the locking latch appears contoured to direct the outside air that cools the radiator also to the air box intake. By saving the plate and screws, the car quickly returns to stock. dgl1

That assumes it does not get enough air from the slots designed into the air guide.

nvmys2k: Unfortunately, I just made the mod, and with the cold rain, my stook remains in the garage.

cdelena: The 3 slots (about 3/8" x 1 1/4")looked pretty small to me as a feed for the air intake. My thought, the more cool air, the better.

hasn't that been tried with ill-effect?
something about intake velocity?

The best cheap mod I have is closed-cell insulation all the way to the TB, keeps the filter element and intake system cooler.

Actually I have been running it exactly that same way for months! I mean months! Its definily a power mod. Above 35 you can seriously feel more power.

I am gonna eventually get the BYS plate for my car if I get a raise at work.(breaking even right now with all my other fun!)

I also insulated my factory box with rubatex.(dunno if it made a big difference) Though taking off the box top and FEELING the temp difference in the front of the box from where I had the tape and not it was a huge difference!

Take the plate out you wont regret it though it will suck up more dirt and crap but hay you got more power!

Want to try something just for kicks? Remove the airbox cover and go for a 9,000 rpm drive! You will not believe the wonderful intake noise you'll hear.
