Importing Euro AP1 in USA (portland oregon)
Hi There ,
I'm evaluating an professional opportunity to relocate to the USA in Portland Oregon.
Do you guys have any idea of what kind of process as to be undertaken , what it would cost, or much time importing my 2001 AP1 there from the Netherlands would take ?
All in all is it possible ? Worth it ? And member with past experience in this ?
Also what would have to be changed in order to drive it there ? (lights ... etc)
Regards,
Olivier

It's definitely not worth it. You can only run the car here for six months without Federalizing it, and that process is very expensive.
You would be better off selling your car and buying another one here. With the strength of the Euro and the price of the car over there, you would probably make money on the deal.

well i live in oregon. we dont have emission testing.
i think the only thing you have to worry about is the crash tests. best bet would be to contact a dmv in oregon and just ask.

No, he will have to deal with the US EPA; thus the other poster used the term "Federalizing." While I'm not sure how hard that would be with an S2000, I'd wager the bureaucracy will make it more attractive to sell and buy a US-legal model over here.

Like someone else said, sell it, move, buy a new one here for what you sold your used one for in the Netherlands.

Shipping usually runs neighborhood of $500-1500 from the US to Europe.
Check the US values from www.kbb.com and www.nada.com . If you buy a car in the US for trade-in, usually you got a deal, and if you pay retail, usually you paid too much. Export/import taxes and such are another issue--beyond me--but if you can get over $15000 USD for your car, you'll probably be best off selling it and buying another when you get here.
Check in the oregon forum, but you'd probably pay ~$1000 in taxes, mostly due to the state tax and some due to title/registration, if you buy an AP1 in Oregon when you get here.
