Oh, I'm not so much worried about the car being stolen as I am about not being able to tuck it in each night in a cozy garage -- leaving it out against the elements seems so...harsh!
I had this disease as well and I assure you it will eventually wear off.

When I first got the car new I washed it literally twice a week. I haven't washed it in the past six months.

AJ,

We now have two S2000s and we never park them inside. We do put hardtops on in the rainy and freezing weather, like now. The '01 has a Lowjack but not the '05. Just keep a good wax job on the car and take care of the soft top with 303 protectant, and the car will be OK in the elements.

I feel your pain. I'm a practical guy, too, so when I was car shopping last year I bought an Accord Coupe ... but I've been lurking on S2Ki ever since. My wife thinks I'm nuts because of my long-running obsession. The local Honda dealer has five MY05s in stock, and every time we go out to dinner I have to drive by to see how many are still there.

See, I really want an S2K, but I'm too practical to have it as a daily driver. I want to keep the Accord, but I can't yet afford the S2K as a weekend driver. Maybe if I convince the wife to trade in her minivan ...

mhm... what if life is too short to be practical?
"Kyras" (is it Patty?), I'm curious, why TWO S2000? Each had to have one?

Tonino.,

I got the '01 Silverstone in March 2001 and have loved it immensely, but the Suzuka Blue came out, with the glass window, later that year and I always wished I had the blue one. Last summer, Back-cracker let me and my husband drive his '04 White and my husband promised he would keep my '01 for himself, if I wanted to get the Suzuka. So I did. We have had lots of fun going on little drives together.

I got a good laugh from the last posts!

Yes, I've had 3 sport bikes but I also had a '74 Mercedes 240D that I had restored...plus, bikes are inexpensive.

I'm definitely going to get a hardtop - I love the look and the protection they provide - plus in the summer when it's super hot and humid (and rains almost everyday), it'll be nice to be more enclosed.

And you guys are such bad influences, I'm going to detail my car tonight and take it to "the dealer" (along with CarMax) to see what they'll give me for it...with a good/fair deal all around, I'll bite tonight -- but that's a few big IFs to work out. IF they'll give me a good price on a new one, IF they'll give me a fair deal for the trade...I just keep telling myself that I can walk away.

Oh, financing topic -- I have cash for the downpayment, but also almost $20K available in a HELOC...the line of credit interest is tax deductible, isn't it? Although the rate is higher than what I'm preapproved for (4.99% from the credit union vs ~8% HELOC), it would be nice to have an additional deduction.

Decisions decisions...

Any Tampa Bay folks have any dealer suggestions or general hints/tips when buying new? I've only done it a few times and *think* I've gotten good deals...but for some reason, I can't be objective about this car and think it'll hamper my negotiating!

Oh, I'll be back in a few hours after I wash and clean my car (I did it last week too so it'll go quick) to check if anyone has any suggestions for buying new...I've also got my sister's digital camera - so yes, I'm prepared to post pictures immediately if it all works out.

It's nice to have people that are like-minded...all I've been getting from friends and family:

"It's too expensive. It's a lot of money. It's dangerous. Where are you going to keep it?" etc. etc. They just don't understand...
