Perhaps this will help some owners that think their low end hesitation is normal and haven't looked for a fix or answer...

A little background...I have an MY04 that now has about 1300 miles on it...I had been experiencing a disturbing lull in the RPM Climb after launching in first gear...
It only happened if I tried to launch softly from about 1300-2000 RPM and then once the clutch was engaged floored the throttle...the car seemed to hesitate or bog - if I launched from 2000-3000 RPM it wouldn't happen.

I considered IF this was normal for the S - did/does it need to be goosed in order to launch without any hesitation - I didn't think so - and still think not. I considered if this might be a low mileage break in period issue...I thought not as well. I was considering whether to bring the car to Honda or another service expert to have it looked at to see if something could be foiund wrong.

I started to search for answers here on S2Ki - I came across several threads that discussed MAP Sensor issues and a simple fix of unscrewing the MAP Sensor and rapping it ( not singing to it) with the back end of a screw driver...I tried the fix yesterday - since I did this - I have driven about 100 miles and have not been able to re create the hesitation or bog no matter what conditions or RPM's I try to launch from.

Several other threads seem to refer to an Air Intake Fix and I've read about several different camps and the thoughts & results around Air Intake Mods...

For the time being I am thrilled that Rapping the MAP sensor has fixed my problem...seems so simple...and as though the car now behaves the way it was intended.

Hope fully this may help anyone else that is experiencing low end hesitation of bog as a result of a sleeping or stuck MAP Sensor

I'm the MAP, I'm the MAP ... I'm the MAP Sensor - rapping fixes my hesitation/bog?

Happy drives...
Nate

My '04 does the same thing you described. my '01 never exhibited the same type of bogging (although it did bog).

I noticed it too, although you have to shift earlier compared to the 00-03, i recommend launching it pass 3000 RPM then shift

You mean revving past 3,000? Well yeah, normally you should be changing to a higher gear between 3,500 and 4,000 rpm, even in the 04. I hope you don't mean take off from a stop at 3,000 all the time!

..and my point is that you shouldn't HAVE to rev to 3000 in order to launch smoothly - you should be able to launch from lower RPM's and then push the car without it bogging or hesitating - hitting the MAP Sensor with the back end of a screw driver did somehting to wake it up or dislodge it from sticking - I think. If nothing else the car is running bettter and reving smoothly from launches at low & or higher RPM's...

amazing how that little fix works, huh?

Fixed my '03 about eight months ago. My dealer insists it couldn't possibly have made a difference. (I found a new dealer)

Mine will be 3 in September (the other one will be 17 in June) - I had my best friend over yesterday for a little IHOP & then a few tech hours in the garage - he's downstairs watching Dora with the little one singing - I'm the MAP , I'm the MAP sensor...I'm the MAP sensor...

Yes very funny....but true only a portion of the total population will identify...
