As long as you properly maintain it with preventative maintenance, all will be well. Goes for most anything Japanese.

I have read that a number of people safely raise the redline on the f22c to 8500 (eg. the Hondata reflash or Flashpro) but I initially have to question the safety of doing so over a long period of time. I have not had my car that long and this is my first Honda so I don't know the legitimacy of my concerns. I haven't had the time to research it further but what is the general consensus of the impact of raising the redline to 8500 over time? Also, is lowering the VTEC engagement RPM directly proportional to raising the redline? In other words, do I need to raise the redline to 8500 to be able to get value out of lowering the VTEC enagement RPM or can I keep the stock redline and still get value out of lowering the VTEC point? I'm sure these subjects have been beaten into the ground but for the sake of discussion can anyone clue me in?

I run my AP1 to 9K EVERY day, multiple times per day . Like, every time I accelerate. Remember, it's a Honda. As long as it's properly maintained it will be fine. .

BUT... I do have a question. Does anyone know of anyone who has a really high mileage (Over 250K) S who has drove it hard daily constantly or tracked it constantly, staying in VTEC 85+% (track) or 50+% (street) of the time? I'm just curious as to how many miles this engine can go before major components are compromised, like the pistons/rings, crank and rods? I know there has to be some point when it just can't take it anymore and needs completely rebuilt on the bottom. Just wondering if anyone knows when that may be...

On a side note, I had a 1986 TRX250 ATV last year that I bought from a friend for almost nothing just to beat around the house and it still ran as good as brand new, and still had the original oil in the block!! No smoke, power loss or piston slap at all. I've had a lot of Honda toys since I was younger (and now: 10' CRF450R, fully dressed, and a 2008 TRX700XX), and I've never had an issue that wasn't self inflicted from any of em'. This is my first Honda car of any kind.

As far as raising the redline, I think it really depends on how much you use the extra revs, for example, raising the redline but never using the extra revs would not increase the wear on the engine at all since it is not operating any different, but IDK the effect of using the extra revs on a consistent basis. As for lowering VTEC if cannot and does not have any connection with raising the red line. Raising the redline only affects how high the car revs, lowering VTEC only affects how the car runs between the point you lowered VTEC to, and the stock changeover, and has no affect on anything before the new point or after the old one.

A mate of mine told me this ditty, but I can't remember if it was about red lining your engine, or about sex, but it went,

Once a queen always a queen, but once a knight is enough.

What do you think?
