Default I really need airbag help

My car was in an accident and the airbags went off. I bought both airbags and new seatbelt tensioners. I installed them but did not connect them yet. I heard I may be able to use the original srs control unit by clearing it.

Here is my problem, I'm afraid of hooking up my new airbags to the srs unit because I'm afraid they may explode. I talked to the dealer and they said that if I turn off the battery for 10 minutes then hook them up and then put the battery back on I should be fine. But he was reading off his instructions from his computer which he printed out for me and it did say replace srs unit before doing that.

Can the airbags explode if I connect them with the battery off and then put the battery back on?

Who did you hear that from? As far as I know, the SRS unit is a one-use item.

A few different dealers.

Want to buy a an SRS computer?

They are one time use.

Do you have the old passenger's side air bag cover? You know with a hole in it? I want it.

What do you want it for?

Why did a few dealers and mechanics say I can use the same srs unit?

Ask them, not us. But I'm pretty sure it's a one-time use item. And as you note, the service manual calls for a new SRS unit to be installed.

Seems pretty clear to me.

The dealers are dumb, I spoke to many of the mechanics and many of them tell different stories, I was hoping someone did this here on these forums.

I actually have one for sale. You can probably find some more of them around. Many people who build race or track cars out of their S2000s remove the airbags and SRS unit and sell them off. (This assumes they are now using racing harnesses, HANS device, etc.)

(But I am hoping to sell it locally, along with the rest of the SRS stuff, all as one package.)
