Do what YOU want to do. If you earned the money, it's your right to do whatever you want with it as long as you are careful with your decisions (since you have a wife and I'm assuming you love her). In all honesty, if you can afford it ... why not get it? You obviously want one! As for the wife, maybe she needs to either 1) drive the S2000 herself and give it a try, or 2) be a passenger as the S2K rips through the twisties through a canyon, or something comparable to that with the top down. Maybe that will "enlighten" her a bit.

It's not a "toy" ... it's a way of life.

Start reading Sport Bike Magazines....she'll come around real quick. In my case, my roadracing license was about to expire and I was offered an HRC 929 Erion Edition from the factory......still friends with both of the "Two Brothers" (Sport bike racers from the 90's will understand this post). We are both happy now.....me more so then she......as she got the ticket at 140MPH. I did mention that that ticket would not have occured if she had let me get the bike .......

Take her out for some drinks, that usually works.

Of course I am not married. I may go pick up a new silver/black 2002 tomorrow. I have the dealer down to $29,500

Of course being 23 and single makes buying an S an easy decision.

I'm lucky that my woman supported me in getting the S2K.

My wife bought it for me. Pay cash, and screw those who say you can't afford it!

mwilly, you know who this is. After you drove My S2K on Sunday, you should have gone straight to Honda first thing this morning. My wife said she would rather pull up to a place here in town with the S2K rather than a Vette or WS6. She said the Vette or the WS6 was like reliving my teenage years. I said, a teenager can't afford these. I told here she could drive it(yeah right!). Now every one I see asks me if I am in my mid life crisis stage. I tell em, nope, its just an adult toy.

By the way, don't let your wife know your on line. Mine doesn't get why I am on all the time and thinks I need help with my chatt addiction.

Think about this! If you invest the price of this car with taxes (circa $34,000) at a lousy 6% for 38 years ( you'll be ready for full SS), then your balence will be exactly $330,524.06. Now that is a tidy sum. Now you gotta ask yourself, "do I want the car now or the money later." By the way, I used that latter rationale and I did not get that 1963 Stingray and my wife ended up with all the money to boot. I have also realized that spouses are easier to replace than dreams, life's goals, or good friends. Think of it as a good investment - take some care of the car and it'll be a great downpayment on a suitable replacement down the road. If not, you'll blow the money on countless things you'll surely not remember when you're my age! Good hunting!

You only live once. I told that to myself plenty of times before I bought mine. Then again, I did not have a significant other influencing me.

Over the years (29) I have been married to this wonderful person I have developed quite a repertoire of varying reasons for obtaining every manner of interesting and illogical vehicles. After a succession of really fun but maintenance-hungry old Porsches and a Mustang or two convincing her to get this reliable Honda was relatively easy. Plus by the time I got to this stage I was already extrememly OLD and could use the ultimate zinger "you know dear I am not getting any younger" which really did the trick.

So my advice is to get a few motorcycles, maybe a rusted-out old Karmann-Ghia restoration project or two, and THEN she will gladly grant permission for a sensible rocket like an S2000. It might take a few months and a coupla dollars but it will be worth it.

Oh yeah, about the in-laws.....forget 'em. Spend Thanksgiving elswhere if you have to.
