Hwy overtake downshifting, what gear?
I was driving home on the hwy last night, kinda seein what gear should i downshift to be in optimal power range. Going about 65mph I tried downshifting into 5th, that was pretty worthless so i shifted back into 6th. Then I tried downshifting from 6th directly into 4th, still wasn't in the best range but i didnt want to try dropping 3 gears from 6th to 3rd. Has any of you guys tried downshifting from 6th to 3rd. And yes I blipped the throttle when i downshifted to 4th.
Thanks for any advice, I used to downshift into 4th from 6th in my E46 M3, it was like sex just not as messy = P

From 4th to 6th, you are UPshifting, right?
I always downshift into the next lower gear. Always. If I had to skip a gear when downshifting, then I must be driving in the wrong gear in the first place. Even in abrupt deceleration, I would downshift one gear at a time until I'm in the appropriate gear. I think it's a good habit for smooth driving.

Thanks for the info fellas , so going around 65mph and downshifting to 3rd seems to get you right Vtec. I'll try it next time some jackass drives too slow and then suddenly wants to speed up when you try to pass.
Haha if I had a S/C, then i wouldn't have to jump 3 gears down.

I used to downshift from 4th to 1st sometimes when I first began driving manual transmission decently; now I take it slowly from one gear to the next lower one just to avoid burning out the clutch or any other damage that can be easily avoided.
