5 seconds after I start my car from cold in the morning, I get a humming noise, near the front of the engine. But it is not the radiator fans. When they kick in, they make a much louder sound.
It sounds like a compressor or pump or something, humming away. It is not he AC, I don't have it on.
Once I noticed that the noise suddenly dissapeared when I turned the steering wheel slightly. Can it be the power steering pump? Does it have one at all, since it is electric assisted? However on other occassions with the noise, turning the wheel has not made the noise dissapear.
Maybe not the power steering either?
I do not remember having this noise in my 00 S-2000.
What's up??

No power steering pump. Its normal. It is what you suspeced it to be was a pump but its an air pump. Its pushing fresh air into the exhaust. It helps burn more exhaust gasses on a cold start up.
Don't worry its normal everybody has it.
