Default Humm. S2000 sales down 32% compared to same time last year

Overall I'm surprised the car has been selling so well, considering it's approaching its 4th year of production.

I'm not suprised. With the market doing so badly and all. Also the car is in it's 4th year of production meaning that it's probably hit it's saturation point in sells. There are probably actually more people buying S2000's this year, however, there are probably more used S2000's being sold now than in the past few years, which takes away from new car sales.

You also have to look at the kind of car the S2000 is. It's usually a 2nd car and only so many people can afford a 20k + second car. That's why the Miata is such a big hit. It's a sports car that an average person could buy as a second car. A miata can easily be acquired for $10,000 or less. And although the S2000 is cheap in relation to it's competitors, it's still not practical for the average consumer.

Hince, it's decreased 2003 sales.

Also with the threat of war, bad economy, lack of consumer confidence, high gas prices, etc the entire industry is in a slump.

In the cited article, the entire Acura division was also down about 30%. There may be other factors at work here, influencing the S2000 sales figures. Certainly the entire winter has been especially bad, on a national basis, which might affect convertible sales. Also, it is possible that the inventory level of 2002 leftovers plus the quantity of newly manufactured S2000's may be less abundant this year than last. Statistics without interpretation can sometimes be misleading. Well, that's the view from where I am right now, with my head in the oven and my feet in the refrigerator. On the average, I feel pretty comfortable.

Sales are down?

I must be one of the few who would relish a decision by Honda to end production.

This time last year, much of the country was basking in nice weather...not buried in snow.

Actually, the weather has been blamed for slowing car sales across the board. I can only imagine the impact is greater on sports cars - especially convertibles - than, say, SUV's.
