So, the X brace interferes SOOOO much with the drain plug that you'd consider this? I haven't seen pics, are you going to have to remove the X brace every time you change the oil??

CHOWBOX - not bitching, just curious. Don't have the brace yet, just the car. First oil change was gravy compared to the wife's Pathfinder or the POS Merc. Tracer I'm confined to until it stops snowing...in APRIL!!!!!

Since the plug is on the side of the pan rather than the bottom, I doubt that all the oil (inclduding any particles that have settled to the bottom) completely drains out. If the Pump's hose reaches all the way to the bottom of the pan, it may actually remove the oil and any particles more thoroughly than opening the plug. I have one on order and will report after I test it (won't be a while, since I'm far from my first oil change).

How could you know whether the pump is removing any particles or not? But nonetheless, I've been using the pump since day one. I always take my car to the shop where they have the oil pump to suck out the oil. It is fairly quick. I'm in and out the shop in 10 minutes.

Changing the oil is so very simple, even with the x-brace installed, I would never consider a pump.. or removing the brace.

I have had cars that always dripped oil on to something (even one that always dripped onto the header pipe and Ox sensor) so this one with the brace is no big deal.

And have another car now that has a drain plug positioned so all the oil cannot be drained on a level surface. Not ideal, but many thousand of identical models run for a long life that way.. The filter catches particles and a few ounces of dirty oil make no real difference.

IMO this change discussion is much ado about nothing.

i remember a few years back jiffy lube offered a special plug for the car where they won't have to remove the drain plug anymore, they just plug a suction pump deal and drain it that way. i don't know if it made a difference, but it kinda made sense at the time.

I have the pump and it takes and special bit of extra tubing to get it in the dip stick hole of the s2000. Also take about 20 mins. for it to suck it out. It works great other than that...
