How is the S2K in the RAIN!!!!!
Hey,
I live in the Philadelphia area so I encounter all kinds of weather, especially rain. Can you guys fill me in on how the s2000 handles the water. Thanks

I had a few track days in the rain and all I can say is that the car is awesome. I dont care what anyone sais, but S02's have ample grip in the rain. Its all about proper throttle modulation in the corners. Remember like any RWD car it will oversteer on slick surfaces with too much throttle. In the straights @ 150km+ in the rain, No problems . Braking also is no big deal...

I've also read posts about the "dangers" of the S2K in the rain, & though I've only been in a few downpours and wet days thus far with mine, it feels completely stable. I do drive more gingerly when it's wet, though, an important habit I learned from my 99 Trans Am, which was much worse in the wet stuff. I think you have to watch the rpms & not break the rear end loose, but the car sticks so well, I think it's quite safe with a little caution, at least in most situations.

I guess the other's are lucky. I was scared as hell driving in the rain. The s2 always feels like it's going to slip out and send me hurtling under some overtall suv or pickup to my demise. It's the only time I don't feel in control of my s2000.

If the road is just damp or is wet with consistency, then you just have less grip and have to be careful accordingly. The behaviour is still quite similar to if you were driving at the at/near the limit in the dry. However, if you have areas of deeper puddles etc, then the fact that the car has an LSD and is RWD can make it tricky esp when you get into a snap oversteer situation caused by the LSD. This is true of ALL RWD cars with an LSD and a decent amount of power/torque. Better tires (deeper tread, better wet compound etc) will help a little. In any case, just know your car, it's limits and don't push too hard if the conditions do not allow. Oh, also, watch for lift throttle oversteer if you are on a wet ramp - it comes earlier than if you are in the dry...

I think the real question is whether you can drive a RWD car in the rain safely. My daughter-in-law was scared by her Nissan Xterra (2WD) the first time she drove int he rain. The only other car she'd driven in the rain was her Probe. For those of us who learned to drive with RWD, I think the S2K is no more dangerous than any other car. Learn your machine, your abilities with it, and drive appropriately.
