how to reset CEL

Default how to reset CEL

hey guys, the gas cap on my 02 S2k wasnt tightened down too well, and now i have a CEL...will it reset on it's own, or will i need to have the code reset with a code reader???

Autozone can erased that code for you...that what they did with my wife CR-V. Or you can pull the "back up fuse" (check your manual) for a minute and put it back. That should do it.

CEL won't reset by itself, it will light up whenever some issue bother him. If you can't fix the problem just simple as tightened down your gas cap, or no obvious problem to your car, I think better to read the problem code to find out what cause CEL up instead of just keep reset the CEL.

I think the CEL for gas cap goes away after a certain number of drives.

Yup, if the problem was a loose gas cap, the CEL will turn off by itself after 3-6 drives.

Awesome! I just had the same thing happen, CEL from a loose gas cap. I was in a hurry because some tool was behind me at the pumps and didn't turn it far enough to get the "clicks"

um... you can reset it by first, unplugging the battery (make sure u have the radio code), then plug the battery back in and pump the brakes 20 times quickly.
