its all about prep i used to paint F-14 Tomcats and Fish22 now paints super hornets and i can tell you this and im 100% positive that he will back me up in saying that 85-90% of your outcome comes from the prep you do. the rest is the ability to paint and not tiger stripe it

You do know me well, and you're exactly correct.

Most likely, I'll repaint the same color, even though I would prefer to change it.

I'm exploring all the options first. I'll look into the details of a full body strip and media blast.

The car in my sig is a tribute to a good friend who passed on. His car was Imola Orange.

The fact that Sherwin's car was Imola, certainly did influence my decision to choose that color.

Well as you can tell by my signature, I re-painted my car Carbon Black from the M3. I am very pleased with the result. It will hurt your resale value if you ever plan to trade it in or something, but may raise it to a private party, who knows.

Anyway, I have everything pained on mine. Door jams, trunk lining, under the hood, etc. The only part of my car that is still silver is the firewall right behind the engine. You cannot see this part without really looking for it. I've showed people under the hood and asked them to find where its still silver, they don't notice unless I show them. I only did this because we pulled all the accesories out of the engine bay, but left the motor in because pulling a motor on a car with 17,000 miles on it was not high on my list to pain that one little section. You can't tell anyway, the parts of the firewall (where the VIN is) that i visable are painted, shock towers, etc.

All in all, I'm happy with it. I was just tired of having silver like everyone else. Make a relationship with a good body guy. I found a few things I didn't like after the fact (minor things you have to live with the car to notice) and he correted them. Now, most people who don't know s2000s don't realize its a re-paint unless I tell them.

If your going to have your car forever and you want a new color, I say go for it. To spend all that money to have the factory color again (even if its beautiful and perfect again) is just not worth it in my opinion.

As far as the body panels. I know he removed the lights and the bumpers. Not sure what else, when I stopped by the bodyshop those were the things off the car. I don't think he pulled the fendors or the trunk/hood/doors. Mine looks great in my opinion, he even did the inside of the spare tire well!

By adding a little black or darker gray into the mix it will show a difference and engine bay is not needed for painting (blended). Maybe not too many people will notice, but when it's next to another Sebring S it will pop. Another member did this with his Silverstone and it looks awesome.

I also had my street car resprayed from end to end. I had to color change the hood to match my car. Even that had some flaws that drives my wife nuts. I can live with it. They got every door ding and dent out, but the job is not perfect either. I doubt anyone would ever see what I see.

So if you are after perfect, rethink it. It you are after better than now, go for it. All in all I am very happy with it.
