mods espically FI make the value of the car go down. You rarely get what you put into it. Thats why I find it funny when people say they "invest" parts/mods into their car. 
Throw those in stocks or real estate or land

Your best bet is to go back to stock form and part out the aftermarket components. This is why I kept every single piece of OEM equip when I started modding. I was able to go back to complete stock and get back 75-80% of my money on aftermarket parts.
I was able to enjoy the novelty of my own setup and still get some money back in return. Essentially paying the 20% in depreciation to entertain my craving for modding.
Something to consider is a fully modded car does not have the appeal to most potential buyers as it does for the original owner. The car is a creation of your own vision and is custom to your taste. Potential owners most likely don't want to "Buy" "YOUR" car. Most likely they want to mod the car themselves and add their own personal touches. This is why a stock car or very lightly modded car will have more appeal.
The demographics of someone putting down $40K to buy your car is VERY small.
Good luck if you decide to sell....but recommend you part out and minimize your losses.
