That 13+ estimate probably includes the fuel lines. I average 20-23MPG in the city, and the light comes on after 10.5 gallons are gone.

As soon as I saw the last gas gauge bar went off and low fuel light on, I reset trip B to see how far I could go before I had to re-fuel. If I remember correctly, that trip B was more than 40 miles when I filled up the gas tank, but because I could miss the low fuel light warning for a mile or two, that why I said "about 40-45 miles"

I wrote down the amount of fuel (accurate to two decimal places) when I filled up that time, and it is in my glove compartment right now. I always fill up the tank until the auto release is on, then add more fuel to the next 25 cents, i.e., if it was $21.14 when the pump was stop, I will add 11 cents to $21.25. I believe that fill up was between 12.2 and 12.3 gallons, that why I said "about 12.2-12.3 gallons"

I kept tract of gas mileages of all my three cars for the last 6 months or so. For the S, I was having between 20 mpg to 22 mpg for most tanks, never drop below 20 mpg and few tanks were little above 22 mpg. If you drive with traffic flow in city streets and use the correct gears, you should get similar gas mileage, that why I said "about 20-22 mpg"

I like to be sure that all numbers I used in this estimate were not interpreted as very accurated, that why the use of "about". If you do not like my usage of "about", sorry.

If your S is in good conditions and if you drive at speed of 65-75 mph in sixth gear, you should get no less than 25 mpg. With 3 gallons reserve, you should get more than 50 miles.
I must confess your approximations are more accurate than most!

I do not agree that there is 3.0 gallons of USABLE gas in the tank.
13.2 gal /Total capacity (Not USABLE capacity)
10.6 gal/ avg amout added when low fuel light comes on.

13.2-10.6=2.6 gal Total gas in tank
2.6-(whatever amount is in the tank but cannot be picked up by fuel pump)=???
certainly < 2.6 gal

I have never seen any fuel tank where the pick up line or suction tube was at the absolute bottom/lowest point of the tank.. if it were your fuel filter wouldn't last 5 tankfuls.

Summer heat in FL I get right at 25 mpg highway at 75mph.

You stated everything in your 1st post as an approximation and then went on to say "you can drive up to 70-80 miles before you ran out of fuel" as though this was a statement of fact.
Go ahead and conduct this experiment and let me know how it works out for you
Keep in mind it is BAD to run out of fuel with modern fuel injection systems, probably why Honda put such a large buffer (20%) in the 1st place.

If I could drive up to 45 miles after last bar of fuel gauge went off and low fuel warning went on in city driving, and I could only put in no more than 12.3 gallons. That tells me the reserve is 3 gallons. If I was on highway and the low fuel warning went on, I would drive at speed around 60 to 75 mph, not 90 mph or faster, and looking to fill up the gas tank within few miles, but now I know that I could drive up to 80 miles or so before the tank is empty.

I know that running with very low fuel in the tank is not good for fuel injectors and other parts of the engine, I tried it last week to see how it felt like, it was more suspended than I like to repeat. Even if I like to try this experiment, i.e., driving on highway with low fuel warning at slow speed (65 to 70 mph) until either run out of gas or more than 80 miles (with a gas can and 1 galon of gas in the trunk), I rarely drive my S on highway because it is my weekday car to work, on weekend we use family sedan for errands.

Did I use any "about" this time ?

I think you are missing my point about USABLE gas in the tank.
The total volume of the tank is 13.2 gals but you could NEVER get 13.2 gallons out of the tank without poking a hole into the lowest point of the bottom of the tank

I'm reasonably confident the actual usable reserve is much closer to 2 gallons than it is to 3 gallons. Had you driven 46 miles you might have found out the exact amount.

Anyway, Good luck and enjoy the car!

the tank is 50 liters, 13.2gal.

I have put 12 in once after driving on empty a while.
