I've heard recent and past rumor that a drive to Cali can yeild you $36k on selling your used S2k. Is this true?

I've purchased two S2000s (a '00 and later a '01) from Penske Honda in Ontario. MSRP for both (even during the "peak" of early demand) and their service has been outstanding. No hassle, no games, they were great. With other SoCal dealers asking as much as $8K over list (Santa Monica for instance) it was worth the drive (about $4,000/hr).
I called all over the US to check prices and Penske was in my backyard. Penske does everything first class. They're very responsive and they are a dealer that understands what "customer service" really means.
I know the Penske folks well and have purchased several cars from them. If you need a contact let me know and I'll set you up before you go out.
I sold my '00 for $36.5K with 2K miles during the rarity days but one would be insane to pay anything close to MSRP for a stock used S2K in the marketplace now.

I paid MSRP at Miller Honda in Culver City. Honda sales are down this year due to the economy. Demand paying MSRP and you'll be surprised at how dealers are willing to work with you.

Re Santa Monica Honda, sales guy was trying to get $8-$10K over (and he, of course, said they were getting it). More power to 'em if people don't care about $$--it a free market. I am not so fortunate--I still care about $8,000.
On service, I took my '00 there to have them listen to the clutch rattle. The service guy told me that the Honda rep told him, "That you cannot decelerate the S2000 (such as just letting your foot off the gas while in gear) from 6,000 RPMs or it would blow the motor". I said, "HUH?????, say again..."
He repeated it a second time--I couldn't believe my ears. "You cannot decelerate the S2000 while the clutch is engaged or it will blow the engine. I started laughing and then I realized the guy was dead serious.
I walked out (very quickly) and still consider it an "out of body automotive" experience. I've never heard anything so far out of left field in my life! Needless to say, my Hondas do not get anywhere near that dealership. Friends don't let friends (or even worst enemies) go there.

I live in Palm Springs but I was willing enough to drive up to Cerritos to go to Norm Reeves Honda. They had the best reputation by far. Here in Palm Springs they wanted 38,000... i bought mine at Norm Reeves for 32,700. ..2001. 9 miles.

I got mine for sticker back in 99 when the market was extremely hot, but I got really lucky. I remember when I was looking around, Penske in Ontario had the best deal.
