The rear tire figures into the crashworthiness of a car - they are engineered around the crumple speed and energy absorption of the spare. 24 pounds might mean something on the track, but in real world driving, I would favor having the spare in there when an Escalade gets friendly with your tail.

Hmmmm, that's just about how much weight I would like to lose to make myself really slim and trim. Unless I can do something about the 225 pound klutz behind the wheel, I would be pretty foolhardy to offload that spare tire. That move would reduce the weight of the vehicle plus driver by a bit less than one percent, so the 0 - 60 time should be proportionately reduced: 5.5 seconds would reduce to 5.45 seconds. Would I notice that? Next step: remove the floor mats, and drive wearing nothing but the tiniest mini-thong.

Don't knock it till you try it, there's nothing like the feeling of soft leather on your butt cheeks.

I agree with the tire weight. I removed mine and the tool kit and it was
more than 30-lbs on my postal scale.

30 x .0021 = .06 seconds in 1/4-mile or 3 horsepower.

It's FREE horsepower until you need a tow.
I removed mine and have two cans of fix-a-flat and a cell phone. If one
can't get me back on the road, the other will. It'd be cool if Honda had
a system like On-Star though.
