Hey gang,
I just had a pretty bad accident today. I posted locally http://forums.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.p...threadid=207491 but wanted to ask here for a wider response.
I'm guessing I was doing about 50mph, rear gave out, spun, hit a median, jumped it, and ran into a cab head first. The front end is totalled, but I just realized that my airbags did NOT deploy? Why would this NOT occur? I did a search and was puzzled, so I decided to ask.
How many accident victims did not have their air bags deploy?
Thanks,
LT

Airbags only go off if your decelerates above a certain rate in a particular direction. You must not have reached that threshold. I would be happy, not mad, because airbags going off is a really violent thing and can cause additional injuries.

Sorry for your loss.
You said the front end was totalled. However, it depends on the angle of attache also. Did you hit the object "head on"? Or was it at an angle? I think the airbags in the steering wheel and dash are deployed only when forward progress is suddenly halted.
I have been to many car accidents with frontal damage and no airbags deployed. The damage was caused by the car moving more sideways into the object.

Either way the seatbelt is always the savior. Make sure you guys are wearing a seatbelt out there. I wouldn't be typing this right now if I wasn't wearing one. But instead all I have a collarbone that sticks out some from breaking in a wreck.

I know when I got hit, it was head on but on the pass side. I was doing 5 mph and they were doing about 45. This was not in my S but my celica. The front was totaled and I was fine. The airbags actually gave me a sliced forehead (from my sunglasses). The worst damage I got was from the seatbelt. It bruised my ribs.
Like said above...be lucky. Airbags deploy if the sensors are tripped.

Well, I ended up hitting it head on, but don't know the speed. I was sliding side-to-side, hit a curb, that spun me around and then I hit the cab head on.
So, maybe the speed was the factor.
I'll post some pics tonight and you'll see what I mean.
Thanks again for the response,
LT

Unlike other vehicles where the impact sensor(s) is/are located on the frame rails, the S2000's impact sensor is located in the center console near/in front of the radio. However, by the pictures, I doubt the airbags would have deployed even if the sensor was located in the frame rail.
