How many miles did you get out of your S02's? I think it is time to change mine.

Tire forum would be a better place for this, but
I avg 10K for rears and most people avg 25-30k for the fronts if rotated.
You get more miles if you rotate you tires, not left to right but inside out (per se).
I would NOT recommend Yoko AVS ES100s (only good in dry summer weather, terrible wet traction, very slick at the beginning weather dry or wet, etc.)
For affordable, I would recommend Kumho MX's not the cheap Supras.
But then again, Jim at tirerack would be the best person to ask this question.
my 2 cents.

I was getting ready for Wake The Dragon and checked the rears (at 10,000 miles) and was surprised to find only 2/32". Needless to say, Tire Rack was called Immediately! 2 days later - we are ready for the Dragon. I can't wait

I have a set of Yoko's and really like them, they don't provide at the limit grip like the SO-2, but they do have deeper grooves that push water out very well in the rain. They were only slick for about the first half mile for me as I was wearing off whatever they put on the outside of the tire.
They are definitely a step up on the 712's, not quite the MX's from what I hear and for $60 for fronts and $90 for rears you really can't beat that in terms of value.

6K miles. The rears are pretty much shot, but the fronts could probably go another couple thousand miles since I only drive the car in dry weather. I decided to go ahead and replace all 4 at the same time.
That 6K miles includes 3 track days and a handful of autocrosses, so it's really not as bad as it sounds.

The only drama with doing that is that you would have to actually remove and re-fit them onto the rims as the S-02s are directional.

BTW I currently have 26,000kms/approx 16k miles on my original S-02s and the rears are looking a little light on for tread.. I probably should look at replacing them within the next six months or so (I don't drive my S2000 very often)..
