Default How long do the stock brake pads usually last?

Now I know the answer will vary greatly depending on my driving style, but I have heard of a few people here with around 50k mi on their original pads with about half of the pads still remaining. A few weeks ago, at around 40k, my brakes started squealing a little, so I brought my car into the dealership and asked them to check on the front pads. They said they were fine, but now the sqealing has gotten worse. Is this a normal time to expect to replace my fronts?

I have 46 thou on mine. There is a little less than 50% left on the pads. I do a lot of highway driving though, and I don't put it on the track.

Uhh.......didn't I see you on the Dragon?
I would think that Dragon miles don't exactly translate into real world miles in terms of tire/brake life.

You can visually inspect the brake pads easily enough - taking a wheel off helps a lot of course. Just eyeball it, and if it shows about an 1/8th inch of pad left, you're pretty much at the point to replace them.

Alternatively, the noise could be from the pads' backing plates rubbing against these thin metal plates that attach to their backs. New pads come with a grease that goes in there and keeps things quiet. After 50k, it might not be doing much for you anymore...

You should definitely inspect the pads to see if they are needing replacement, or simply needing cleaning or greasing up.
