It took me around 4 months or so. I actually looked at a number of S2K's, usually 99-00's with low km's, even looked up a JDM 01' model...but couldn't find insurance to cover me on that. I finally found an 03' model, new that had been sitting on the lot of a new Honda dealership that opened up in the western (lower income) suburbs for the last 11 months. Drove all the way there to check it out, and after seeing the changes in the 03 over the 99-01 I just had to have it. I know the changes are subtle, but the glass rear window really did it for me lol. That and I managed to get a ripper deal, basically walking out with a practically new S2K for 20K AUD under sticker
It was still around 13K AUD over what I had initially planned to spend, but a deal like that only comes around once in a blue moon, so I jumped at it.

Well they debuted when I was 17 and I'm 21 now. All in all I waitied 4 1/2 years to get one, but when I actually started looking it took about 2 months. I bought this '01 Spa Yellow with 6800 miles on it. It's a certified pre-owned. I actually thought I would have to settle for one with about 30K on the odo, but this one came along and I drove 500 miles to get it.

About 1 hour.
I have gone to same dealer for past 5 Hondas. Things can be expedited when you have a good relationship with the right salesman. Went in for free oil change on my 99 Lude (had a coupon) and drove out in an S. My wife was kindof mad.

I went in at 2pm - picked up at 7pm after running to the bank for a certified check.
