how Herson's Honda changes the oil on a SCed S2000
#21
hey Guys, ok...what is this 7500 mile service you guys are talkin about? my next oil change is at 7500 miles and i looked under "normal driving conditions" in the maintanance schedule, and it said all i had to do was change oil and filter and to check on the tires. (it gets a lttle more involved at 15000). So my question is what service are you guys talkin about? i've come to notice that the stook is a high maintanance car, but at the same time i understand why...so just wondering about the service u guys are talking about b/c i wanna keep it running well. oh yeah, man you guys are lucky to live in the same area like that...anyone in Georgia know of a reliable mechanic?
Thanks Guys,
TonyJ

I don't have a map at work and the little mapquest ones don't have a lot of context, so a reality check is in order. It's easier for me to visualize going TO rockville, so run it backwards.
Normal roads:
97 South
Right on 28 (norbeck road)
Right on East Gude
Head towards 355...
The smaller roads (much easier to miss turns)
97 South
right on 650W (new hampshire)
left on Sundown
left on zion
right on brookville
about a mile, right on 108
about 50 yards, left on muncaster rd
becomes redland rd
hits 355 near shady grove
You might be able to tell that I'm a bit fuzzy on the rockville end of things. I work in glenwood (in the only building in town) and live in columbia so I'm more familiar with roads between those two...

Thanks Crhis, those directions sound right, I "cruise" around that area once in a while. You guys visit this road off Muncaster Mill ...... its call Avery rd. Packed with some narrow twisty corners and some S corners, and watch out for a Stop sign at the bottom of a downhill, its hidden to the drivers if you go in from Muncaster Mill.
I guess they change the oil, filter, lube up the hinges, and alignment probably, and maybe some valve adjustments.
I'll let this super mechanic decide on what needs to be done.

glad you guys had this directions discussion - I didn't realize this place is closer to my house than it is to where I work. This will make it easier to drop off and leave for service. I don't drive up that way often, but from looking on my ADC map of Montgomery county looks like there are lots of nice country roads up there.
TonyJ:
Yes, all the manual calls for is an oil change and check the tire pressure. Alas, some dealers decide that all sorts of stuff needs to be done so they can make more money. There was a Mazda dealer that did this and I finally started telling them exactly what I wanted done (and ONLY done) when I took my car in for maintenance.
Here is the 7500 mile maintenance at Herson's Honda:
replace engine oil and oil filter
inspect: air cleaner, radiator and coolant hoses, transmission linkage, suspension mounting bolts, exhaust pipes and mufflers, PCV system, cooling fan operation, brake lines, hoses and fluids, steering box and tie rods
lubricate: door latches, hood hinges and latch, door hinges, battery terminals
top off: windshield washer fluid, transmission fluid, anti-freeze, power steering fluid
they also measure the air conditioning vent temp, the tread depth on each tire and the thickness of each brake pad
for all of this inspect, lubricate, top off, etc. they charge One Hour of labor ($85) and misc shop supplies ($11.90). The oil change part was materials and one hour of labor

You could always try Brown's Honda City Glen Burnie, MD. They do all my work when I'm up north.
Ask for Jeremy. Call ahead and ask how they feel about the "SC". I know they are a Jackson Racing distributor so a "SC" shouldn't spook them.

You know, it's almost funny - I was curious so I wandered over to Jackson Racing's website to see who's they think is qualified in the area.

There's only two MD shops on the "official" list...

Thanks a million Chris!
I just did my first oil change at 5000 miles a month ago and now I'm coming up to the 7500 mile mark. It's a tough decision as to where to go. The Heritage Honda in Westminster is supposedly pretty reputable, but I think I'll try out this private service. Hope he doesn't get too overwhelmed with our response!
As for the roads, all of you who were at Rick's meet know that MD has some of the best! I'm lucky enough to live here so I've done the route several times now that I have my own stook. Can't get enough of it no matter how much you drive.
AutoXex, I'm game for a lil' meet. Definetely for one with "spirited" driving, I love to push the limits of the car.
