yeah, I talked to Scot. Up until now, they have treated me pretty well, but this thing with the oil change is pure BS. Well, screw 'em I say, I'm ordering my Helm manual today.

I feel your pain.
So far, I've had dealers joyride in my car, grease up the center carpeting and seats, not torque the tranny bolt enough so I could have a nice flatbed ride, dent my car and paint it without my permission, and god knows what else.
Honda makes some of the best cars in the world, but their dealers just plain suck.

I just saw your message about the high cost of service at Herson's. That's actually where I bought car in March 2000 - I'm in Columbia, but dealers here charged a premium, Herson's had it at MSRP.
With regards to service, I've never had a good experience at a Honda or Acura dealership. About 4 or 5 years ago, I started going to a private honda mechanic out in middle of nowhere - Woodbine, MD. He's now the only mechanic I'll let touch my Integra GSR, my wife's Integra SE, and the S2000. I trust him enough that I even stored my S2k at his shop last winter.
His name is Ben Schaeffer (301-854-6252) - he's the owner. He does routine service as well as performance work. He does a lot of work on Type Rs, supercharged integras/civics, and S2000s. If you are into racing, he also does a lot of work on SCCA-prepped cars. I know he did transmission work on the S2000 Neal Sapp raced in T2.
He's located at the intersection of Union Chapel Road and Daisy Road. It's out in the middle of nowhere, off Route 97 near Glenwood. I would routinely drive 30 minutes just to get my car to him for an oil change (Though I now work in Glenwood again).
I know it's a hike, but if you get the Helm manual and decide you don't want to be changing out plugs and doing valve adjustments, the drive may be worth it. Give him a call and tell him I suggested you call.
I also realize this sounds a bit like an advertisement, but I just like the guy and he's been doing a good job on all my cars for years. Finding a good mechanic can be tough.

I know what you mean, its hard to find somebody to work on your car and not having any wonders if they will treat it right.
Where is that place ? Say if we are coming from the beltway .....
I think I might rack up 7500 miles in Oct/Nov, do you guys think I should get the service done before I go to Summit Point or do the service after coming back from the track ? or just service it before and after ?
I wonder if its necessary to get services from the dealership ....... do they know something an average mechanic wont know ?
my brother's GS-R is still having some 1st gear problem, brought it to Rothensal Acura, and the car was vandalized with nearly $8G worth of lost. (The seats alone cost almost 6G, said the insurance guy)

Easiest way to give directions is to pop that into mapquest/maps.yahoo/etc.
It's just a few miles south of route 70, so from frederick you would take 70 east to Route 97 or whatever the previous exit is for Lisbon is. From the lisbon exit go around the circle and head east on frederick road (144) until you get to daisy road on your right. From Route 97 take Frederick road till daisy road on left (or take 97 further south to union chapel). Once on daisy road, it'll be a couple miles south on the right - just before union chapel on the left (the only intersection for a while)
Fun roads in this area - no lights, twisty, windy and very little traffic.
From rockville, there are tons of back roads to get to Rt 97. It's usually less than 30 minutes during rush hour.
As for warranties, last time I took my GSR to Acura West for warranty work, they didn't ask why their records showed that I hadn't had an oil change in 45k miles (though they did get grease on the floormats and the entire interior stunk of gasoline). I'm not even sure I would trust a dealer to do warranty work at this point. Definitely need to weight the relative costs of a small repair.

Chris,
thanks for the recommendation! I called and talked to Ben just a few minutes ago - sounds like he knows his stuff. I work in Greenbelt, so I will probably drive up there tomorrow just to get to know where it is.
mstw:
you might want to call and talk to these guys before you go to the track and ask their recommendation. Ben asked me if the dealer had adjusted the valves and of course they haven't, because they don't know any better. He said cars of these type usually need the valves checked/adjusted within the first several thousand miles.
thanks again Chris.

I pass by this shop all the time b/c I enjoy the backroads in that area. I'll have to stop by too. I drive on these backroads fairly regularly, for those that are interested in having a mini meet who live close by, I can organize a nice sprited drive with me and some buddies of mine.
