Hey guys just a random question here, when i had my old NB miata it was so easy to kick the rear end out. Sometimes when making a left turn or something all i would have to do is blip the trottle above 3k and i could easily control it and powerslide for several feet and it was pretty fun.

Now i have an ap1 and im much more intimidated by a bit since it feels so much heavier than the miata and i know the earlier ap1s have the biggest rear sway bars which makes it more prone to oversteering but it just seems like if i were to go into a slide i would just end up spinning. the car feels so much more planted and grips better than the miata. thoughts anyone?

I'm a newb with the car too but coming home from the gym tonight it was super easy to get the rear to come out on a 4k 1 --> 2 shift. However it was cold, I'm on stock tires, and I'm SC'd. It did seem that as soon as it came out it REALLY stepped out quickly. My old Camaro (yeah yeah dont laugh) and friends Mustang didnt seem to come around as much as quickly.

We have both an S2000 and a first gen Miata. It's no harder to get the S2000's tail out, but long power slides take more finesse with the S2000. If the finesse isn't there, the S2000 will get you into trouble, and will do so a LOT quicker than the Miata.

yeah im definately not going to try this anytime soon, especially on the streets, ill wait till i find a nice big empty parking lot so get used to it and maybe pull of something like red_mx5's sig

The street is definately the wrong place to be learning the cars limits.

The gif in my sig was shot in a gated private parking lot. Be careful on lots that aren't gated; People might stop to watch and get in the way. In most places you can get ticketed for fooling around in public parking lots, so pick your location carefully.

Best places to learn are sanctioned autocrosses.

Ive never driven a 1st gen miata or any gen miata but it sure is easy to whip the S2000's rear end sideways. Its actually raining in my area so I went drifting on my way home.. Clutch kick, e-brake or just simply flooring on a turn will get you sideways. I actually got sideways for at least 4-5seconds on a corner earlier going about 25-30mph(speed limit ) I wasnt trying to be careless and crazy so i took it lightly and slow speed just to be safe. But yeah hes right about the finesse thing. If it isnt there, Good Luck! lol

Now before I get flamed on here for Drifting in public streets I just want to say that this was done on a closed/gated neighborhood with Biiiig wiiide streets and long wide turns and no cars parked on the sides or curbs.
