Whenever my brakes would squeek, I would run things up to 80-100 and brake down to 10 or 20 a couple times to scuff things off. Seems to work well.

Note: that was done on a Neon with Hawk HP+ pads (quite aggressive for the street, they're more of a track day pad) and thicker than stock rotors. Your results may vary.

I guess my quesiton isnt quite understood.. I wasnt sure about this either but my brakes are squeaking high pitched (especially right when i start driving in the morning). I took it into the shop and they said its just from brake dust..

How many miles do you have on the brakes?

There are three places it would generally be squeaking from.

1. The wear indicator. There is a metal tab on the brake pad that will rub on the rotor when the pads get thin. This means your brake pads need to be replaced ASAP.

2. The normal semi-metallic dust building up on the pads and rubbing on the rotors. This is a normal condition, and there is not too much you can do for it. The only thing you could do is change to a less noisy pad, but this may negatively impact brake performance.

3. The Caliper Piston rubbing on the back of the pad itself. You can get brake grease and apply it between the pad and the piston.

The alternate solution is an aftermarket exhaust and a full sound system. You won't hear your brakes squeak then.

The car has about 17k on it.. I took it to a brake shop and they said its just dust.. Its pretty high pitched and annoying, it makes the car sound kinda towny

If you drive hard, 17k is enough miles to need new front pads. Try a second shop. It seems odd that the first one would miss it if it were hitting the wear indicator, but it's possible.
