How does a radiator cooling plate work?

its mostly for looks
but works as well

The car already has a shroud that directs the air into the radiator. The plate is strickly cosmetic on our cars. It might be functional on others.

I like it though. It fills up that big gap behind the bumper and makes the engine bay look alot smoother.
