Default How do you put the top up w/o parking brake?

I didn't want to steal ReDevil's thread, but this is along the same lines.

I've in the past put up the parking brake whenever I parked to put the top up. I found out at a recent S meet that's a no-no since it will warp the brake. I usually drive to work with the top down, which I'll have to put it back up. How do you put the top up without engaging the parking brake? Do you just pull it up enough before it clicks so the BRAKE light comes up?

I don't think the 10 seconds that the parking brake is engaged will warp your rear rotors...

i'm 99% sure that the speedo has to read zero AND the parking brake must be engaged. i meesed around with it this weekedn and couldn't "trick" the mechanism into operating.

I can get it to go up when I hold the brake up just enough so the light goes on (I don't think it engages since it doesn't click).

I didn't know what the whole parking brake / warping thing had to do with. They just said don't do it after your car has been running for a while.

If you haven't been using the brakes very hard, you don't need to worry about warping the rotors. It's only when they're really hot, like at the track, when they'll warp. It's not generally a problem on public streets.

There is a thread somewhere in the Electronics forum that talks about how to override the speed and ebrake sensors.

Check Modifry's web page, I think he's got a description/product that can remove the parking brake sensor from the circuit.

I do stop the car. I'm not trying to put it up or down from a rolling start, I was wondering how others do this without totally engaging the parking brake after you run the car hard. I thought it was bad to do this.
