How Bad is it to hit Rev Limiter..?

see, I was thinking that too, but most engine builders just build the engine to spec and send it out. Then a shop installs it, tune the engine and that's how it works, usually.

nice blk/red s2k!

looks like mine, but Mine looks better.

There's a lower limit when the engine's cold. AP2 is around 7K. Maybe that's what you hit. I've only hit it warm a couple times. But it seem like I find the cold limit about once a month leaving work.

lol alright thx guys...im gunna actually do the search for modifrys shift beep right now...seems like a cool idea!

Edit: okay searched and found the link to the product but the sites down or something, is this something that will come back? if so is it an easy install? I hear everyone commenting on how easy it is but no how-to's and such... thanks for the ideas

My previous car (1996 Prelude VTEC) was for some reason without a rev limiter. One day, just 2 days before I bought my S, I think that I miss shifted into 2nd from 3rd at the redline and my RPMs shot up to at least 9k. The engine immediately died and I ended up bending every one of my exhaust valves, costing me almost $2,000 to fix (now the car has in irregular idle that dies before having run for 20 minutes, which for some reason has no electrical source of the problem).

I make it a habit not to pass the redline (if I even touch it) when I get on the S.

Exactly! This car chews through the tach so fast (especially in lower gears like 2nd) that the redline grabs you by surprise quite easily.

The situation in traffic you speak of is when this happens to me the most.

Wow that was a really good video imo, definitely shows the capability of the S and how the rev limiter is just a precaution for the engine. I sometimes worry as well when shifting near redline or bounce off it, but then i remind myself that its a honda.

Well in that video he does hit the rev limiter a couple times. However there is no rev limiter while downshifting. He is spinning that engine past the redline when downshifting anyways. Its ok to bounce off of your rev limiter while upshifting. There is nothing there to protect you from down shifting or shifting in the wrong gear and spinning it to fast.
