I was seriously considering purchasing the 4.57 gears from ricks2k.com...I was wondering how the gears work and why do they make the quarter mile (14.2-13.4)...Lastly, do the gears affect your acceleration to 145 (top speed)..such as does it make it slower...and where are some places that install the gears in southern california and how much would it cost?

Go back a couple of weeks and we answered most of the questions already.
Because of the lower gearing you will be quicker all the way.
