Hi all,

I have just bought a brand new S2000 and the hood doesn't want to close I tried dropping it but no luck and I don't want to apply force which might bend it. The car has 45miles only and I wanted to know if there is a special way to close it or should I go to the dealer? Thanks in advance.

Did you try to drop it chest level? Don't be afraid. You have to drop it certain height to close the hood.

I drop the hood from about a foot and a bit. Perhaps you would want to get the latch adjusted by the dealer. Chest high seems a bit excessive to me.

Salim2000,

YEahhhh...you just have to find that certain height to drop the hood to get it closed.

You don't want to push on the hood because it is aluminum.

Take it back to dealer if you really are concerned but have you tried white lithium grease? It comes in a spray can and it comes out thin and then thickens up. All other manufacturers recommend this on all door latches, hinges and hood and trunk latches. Just spray some on the both parts -- the hood part and the part on the car that it slams down on.

Make sure the hood release handle is pushed in all the way.

Sometimes the cable hangs up, this will cause the latch to remain open and the hood will not close correctly.

I had exactly the same problem when the car was new - you might want to try adjusting the latch yourself. I moved mine all the way to its topmost position and it now closes everytime, although I still need to drop it from chest height. Grease didn't help me and it sounds like it may not help you either.
