Default HondaCare warranty changes coming 9/1/2005?

I got an e-mail from Curry Honda - an online HondaCare dealer - that Honda is changing the program details starting 9/1/2005:

Alert!! Honda is revamping all Honda Care plans effective September 1st, 2005.

If your Honda is a 2003 or older or has more than 6,000 miles you may be paying about the same for Honda Care, but you will only qualify for a $100 deductible. $0 and $50 deductible plans will not be available to you.

Vehicles with over 36,000 miles or are over 36 months old will no longer be eligible.

If your Honda is a 2004 or newer and has less than 6,000 miles you can wait until next month to purchase.

Longer term plans may be available to you in September, but eligibility will be limited.

Looks like after 9/1 you will no longer be able to get a $0 or $50 deductible plan, just a $100 one - unless you car has less than 6k on the clock.

I know some folks have had trouble with HondaCare claims, just like some have had trouble with Honda basic warranty claims. But if you don't mod your car or abuse it you should be fine. So this is not a thread to debate the pros and cons, but to let folks know that if they are THINKING about HondaCare now may be good time to buy.

One of the rumored reasons for the change is that on 9/1 Honda will announce that all 2006 Hondas will now come with a longer than 3/36k warranty. It could be bumper to bumper or just a powertrain extension (maybe 4/50k like some competition has). They will then start offering an 8/120k HondaCare to these newer car owners. I had originally heard the 06 Accord would get the longer warranty, but now the rumor is that all 06 models will.

We will know 9/1, but if you already have an S and are thinking about the warranty - might be a good time to look into it.

The best deal I have been quoted (so far) is $766 for a $0/7yr/75k HC plan.

BTW, when I traded my 01 in I got back a large chunk of my HC plan on it when I cancelled.

MY2006 will bring 3 year/36,000 mile bumper to bumper and a 5 year/60,000 mile powertrain warranty.

Those interested in HondaCare, be careful. If you mod your car in any way, shape or form, they will instantly deny you and void your HondaCare contract. HondaCare is not a warranty, but a contract, is its not subject to the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.

I think it is a YMMV situation depending on the dealer you take the car to and your relationship with them.

Pretty much the same as with normal warranty repairs - a good dealer can stretch "the rules" to keep a customer happy and a bad dealer will deny anything they want to for any reason.

I don't plan on any power train or suspension mods to my S, so the worries would not apply to me in any case.

Well, for my diff, they actually had a HondaCare rep inspect the damaged part before they guranteed they'd replace it. I knew I was just driving in a parking lot when it popped so I wasn't worried. The HC rep inspected my damage and did not deny anything. I don't want to sound like an ass, but those BS statements piss me off. HC has done very well by me, never denying a thing on my car.

Are you saying that the Hondacare contract is worded so as to be void in the event of ANY mods? How about a guy who installs a spoon snorkel and aftermarket radiator plate, then looses a differential. Or a guy who installs an aftermarket front spoiler and shift knob and then looses his transmission. Doesn't the contract require some relationship between the mod and the breakdown for the contract to be void?

Thanks,
Richard

not necessarily. that is the gist of magnuson-moss, which doesn't apply here.

This is a blatantly incorrect blanket statement. Light modding of your car will in no way void HondaCare. My car is dropped and HC has yet to deny anything, that includes replaceing the Differential as well as both inner CV cups.
Nope. You should read the fine print of your contract. You're an exception, not the rule.
