Gil Deferan in his Penske Racing Reynard Honda has just won the CART Fed Ex Championship by placing 3rd in the 500 mile race at California Speedway.

Penske racing has regained their winning ways this year by moving to the Reynard Chassis and Honda power.

uhm... how do you "win" by coming in 3rd?!

are you talking about points or the race?

He won the points championship, not the race

It was a great race, but could we edit the title with <spoiler> brackets for the benifit of those who check in during the day but may have taped the race to watch in the evening? ie. "Fontana CART results *warning spoiler inside*"

I know I would have been disappointed to see your message title if I hadn't watched the race.

Unfortunately, Ford won the Manufacturer's Championship by some 20 points. Honda came in second. But what do you expect? Ford had about 20 cars running under the blue oval flag. Whereas Honda only had about six cars fronting its banner. At least Honda beat Toyota. Still, it might have been a different story between Ford and Honda if Oriol Servia had not purposely taken out Paul Tracy at Surfer's Paradise in the race before--but that's racing.

Sorry didn't mean to spoil the race. I wasn't thinking about that when I posted. The race was very exiting and worth watching and I did not give the results of the race, just the Driver's Championship.

Now, if only they would get Alex Zanardi back in CART under Honda power

Zanardi was at the race and when they asked him about coming back to CART he just smiled.

Look for him to go to Mo Nunn's team who I believe will be running Reynard Hondas.

Mo Nunn was his engineer at Ganasi Racing when he won the championship.

Thats the logical choice, but I'll believe it when I see it...

Seems that Nunn is happy with Kanaan.

Its pretty well said that Zanardi wont be back without Honda, and some hefty money... Zanardi likes his current lifestyle...

I hope to see Jimmy and Alex in a Reynard Honda next year, but the big issue will be sponsorship... Alex has Barilla, and Jimmy has STP (I think)...

Hollywood wont sponsor unless they have a Brazilian...
