Honda offering 0.9% for 36 months (2.9% for 60)
Just noticed on the Honda web site that they are offering special financing in addition to the lease offer. Since there is a cost to this, can you buy for less than invoice if you don't take the financing? Edmunds shows approximately $500 over invoice on a base S2000 in the Atlanta area. I'm thinking $1000 - $1500 below invoice for a offer. Any chance?

You're not likely to get any better deal on a car that you pay cash for than one you finance these days. The days of getting a rock bottom price for paying cash are long gone.
As long as you have sparkling credit and you are confident you will qualify for the 0.9%, I would negotiate the price of the car first. Once you're satisfied with the price, THEN decide if you want to do the financing or still pay cash.
I would then take the 0.9%, as you could easily invest the money that you would have paid if you bought the car cash and earn much more than that. Hell, you'll earn more than that just in a savings account.

dealers would rather you don't pay cash! they bank on you to finance the car so they can make even more money on the back end. although if you can qualify for the 0.9% financing you're doing great.

CarsDirect is offering $800 below invoice on 2008s in Atlanta. I'm going to give $1500 below a shot.
Has anyone used CarsDirect. We used a credit union buying service for my daughters Element and got a pretty good deal.

I was one of the first customers of CarsDirect when they opened in April of 1999. Got a 3.2 TL when they were in high demand (completely redesigned from 1st generation) with 2-3 month wait lists at dealers. CarsDirect's initial marketing campaign was "any car at invoice" and they kept their end of the deal by sending a $3000 check to the dealer via FEDEX to close the gap between current invoice and the popular selling price at the time. I was very impressed.

So far the best offers I have:
$33,100 for a 2008 (which is $900 over Edmunds)
$28,900 for a 2007 Silverstone
+ one "this is the last year for the S2000" from a salesman
This ain't going to be easy.

I had this problem in 06, although the prices for this car were not as cheap as they are now, because the demand and market value was higher on the S2K.
I negotiated with three dealerships, two nearby, and one far away. The one dealership near me literally let me walk and didn't care, after their rock bottom offer of 500 over invoice. The second offered invoice, and let me walk. I negotoiated online at the third, and it was $500 below invoice, but it 2 hours away. A week later, I took the middle dealership and got it for invoice, because I didn't want to drive 4 hours total, and I wanted to buy my car closer to home, and not out of state.
In reality, it all depends on the dealership, the area, and can even be the mood they are on that particular day. So many variables, but if as a buyer you are patient enough, just make an offer and wait it out, and things can go your way.
It might be tough to get $1500 below invoice with the APR offers. I know in this area where I live, they'd laugh at me if I even tried it on an 08. Good luck!!!
