I also plan on keeping mine for a very, very long time...AP2's are still being made each day, so their value will still depreciate for a little while...
The AP1's get rarer and rarer everyday, but their value is still dropping slowly due to their numbers... I think you'll see a good increase in the asking price of used s2k's immediately following their demise, but the market will level out within a year or 2 to a grand or 2 higher than the resale just before the termination of the line...then they'll very slowly increase in value as they become ever more the rare "vintage" open-top roadster.
When the 20 and 30 year olds of today are in their late 40's and 50's, these cars will be at their highest resale ever, since those of us that lost or sold our old s2's will try to grab up a piece of our history and once again drive what we remember fondly as "our favorite car ever"
Unless it gets totalled, I'm keeping mine until I can no longer drive.

I love my car, but it will be 30 years before it reaches collectible status. Considering Ferrari 308's are going for mid $20K for ones in great condition, don't hold your breath for the big payout. Doesn't matter. I have no intention of ever getting rid of mine. maybe in 30 years my kids will get my $34K back.
But assuming they do become collectibles, would the original 2.0L be of more value or the 2.2L? I think there are far fewer of the 9000 rpm redline cars out there.
