Nah...as long as you didn't stay in the red zone for an extended period of time. I've done it once myself and when the engine shook I knew I had redlined so I just switched to second.
I think Honda did a good job with designing an engine that could withstand a good redline, especially in first gear. Because the redline is so high we often take for granted the idea that we will never redline. Not true...just ask some of those who have misjudged downshifting

Thanks... I feel a bit better about it now, My last car was a 3000GT VR-4 and even a little bit before the redline you could tell the engine on the 3000GT VR-4 was being over worked and over stressed (the S2000 is my 2nd car).

I wouldn't worry. If you really wanted to you could probably hold the gas down and let it bounce off the rev limiter without doing any damage. Thats why there is a rev limiter. What did you like better the 2000 or the 3000

The 3000GT was alot faster (I upgraded the turbos) but the S2000 is more fun to drive... Hitting VTEC and bringing it to redling is so much fun. When you do that in the 3000GT you feel like your going to break it. No joke. The S2000 also handels better in the turns (unless its wet, got to love AWD), but over all I like the S2000 a little bit better. I bet if I had a supercharger or turbo on my S2000 I would be able to bet my 3000GT.
