Unhappy Highway Driving During Break-in

I'm from LA and I was thinking about buying my S up in the bay area - is it ok to drive it all the way home on the freeway? As I understand, when breaking in the s2000, you should vary your speed and not stay at any one speed for too long (ie. no long highway trips). Have any of you purchased your car far from home and drove it back? Does it REALLY matter? Thanks.

Jim

I don't see what the problem is as long as you stay under 5k during that 600 mile break in you should be fine.....

You're also suppose to stay below 50mph. Can you imagine driving around 200-300 miles going below 50mph on the freeway? Have you ever tried driving 50mph and below on the freeway? You'll get a lot of pissed off drivers and people giving you dirty looks.

How strictly do I need to follow the break-in procedures? Because driving 400 miles at 50 miles per hour would suck

Drove a new BMW 330i from Dallas to Little Rock (350 miles) and tried to stay under 65 - varied speed as much as I could. Never had any engine problems after that.

My manual only says it to keep it under 5000 RPM. Nothing about 50 MPH.

I'm not disagreeing with you in the slightest. I was just pointing out that you are indeed right - driving that distance at 50 mph would suck! Hmmm...maybe I'll take PCH down instead of the 5!

I was told to keep it below 50 and read it a few times on this forum.
