Default HID Question

I'm a bit surprised that my passenger side HID bulb is out. The car just broke 11K miles. Granted, it is a MY01 but still...I thought these things were more stout than regular bulbs...I've even read manufacturers boasting about how the bulbs should outlast the vehicle. Just my .02...I've never seen an HID bulb go out.
Before I tuck tail and take a field trip to the dealership and have them bend me over-I would like to take a look at it myself. To my understanding, it could be the bulb or the ignitor/ballast or both. Abulb replacment is $250 and a bulb and ballast replacment is going to be over $600 per the dealership. I'm not sure what to make of this. There are kits out there for a set, with everything for less money.

I would like to do some snooping around and testing for myself. There are a coupe of places that sell used DS2 4300K bulbs and worst case scenario, I can purchase a new bulb from a site vendor for around 140 I think and install myslef.

Does anyone know the easiest and less painful way to access the passenger HID bulb? Remove entire headlight housing? How? or Come in from the fenderwell? How?

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I believe the easiest way to check everything out would be to remove the front bumper cover to remove the headlight assembly. It's actually pretty easy to remove.
