Hello,
I am a new member here.
I like long walks in the park and beautiful beach sunsets.....
Seriously.
I don't own an S2000 yet, but am looking to get one in the next six months when my lease on my Eclipse GT comes due.
I was wanting to wait for the 2002 model to depreciate since it has all the upgrades over the 00-01 (glass, stereo, clutch).
Does it make a big difference vs the earlier model. I have never owned a convertible so dont really know what problems a plastic window would be.
I have a friend with an s2000, but there is a difference between that and owning one and driving it everyday.
Anyways.
How the hell are you all!!!

Hi there. Seems like not too many people want to post replys for you so I will go ahead and do that.
Let me tell you from the get go that having a glass rear window as opposed to the plastic one is a tremendous leap as I have seen some used 2000 and 2001 models for sale recently and the plastic windows are all creased up and wrinkled badly.
The clutch and stereo were also upgraded too as I've noticed and both work really well. The stereo is what you'd expect from Honda but works quite well and can get loud.
The interior is also a little different now as I've noticed that the center console has vinyl instead of the carpeting on it. Plus if you get a blue or red interior car, then the interior will just about be that color. Soooo, mixing things up a bit would probably help to tone it down a bit.
Other than that, I can say that it would worth the wait to get a 2002 model instead of the previous years. I special ordered mine in September and just picked it up last week. Already there are over 850 miles on it and VTEC is so fun to drive with. You won't be dissapointed one bit. Trust me...

I like my 2001 just fine. I have no need for a glass window. So what if it gets a little creased or wrinkled? It adds character and purity to the S2000 and keeps it "sporty". Same thing for the carpet center console. If I had a 2002, I'd REPLACE the silly vinyl console with the carpet console. I just like it better. The '02 stereo may be better than the '00 & '01's STOCK, but it still can't compete with a good set of aftermarket components. I have MB Quarts and I can guarantee they sound much better than the '02 stock stereo. As far as the clutch goes, people are already starting to have problems with their '02s (do a search and you'll find some pretty recent threads) so I'm not sure if it has really been "improved."
You be the judge. If you want more luxury and convenience then go with the '02. If you want a slightly purer sports car, go with the '01 or '00. And use the money you save to make it your own, be it a Muz Mat (for that "unbearable" plastic window) or some wheels and tires to make it really stand out.
Just my 2/5ths of a nickel

Welcome to the forum, you won't believe how much fun you will have once you own one.
I had a unique oportunity to order either a MY2001 or a MY2002. I chose the MY2001 because the glass rear window is so much smaller in the 2002. I personally don't have a problem with the plastic window. It's easy to take care, but you do have to take care of it.
The other upgrades didn't interest me and I didn't like the metal (chrome) trim rings around everything in the interior and rear lights. The one thing that I would appreciate on the 2002 is the clutch upgrade. If mine gives me any problems, I can get it replaced because of the TSB, though. I'm not going to pay for another Honda clutch, however. I will definitely get an aftermarket clutch assembly.
Enjoy your new S,
Bob
