Not true at all.

I was told $9500 by a local Honda dealer for a new engine, so I took her back to my Honda dealer in my home town. It turns out that the new engine is in fact $7K, but they wanted $2500 locally for the install (I am paying $1700). So after sales tax you are looking at a bit over 10 grand.

But in this case, since it is very obvious who's fault this is, I would get a brand new motor out of the douche bags that run Jiffy Lube.
What I'm saying is you might not *need* a new engine. You may have shut it down quick enough to where no actual damage started to occur. The white smoke you saw was assuredly the oil cooking off the exhaust manifold...
Your car might still be ok, but you deserve compensation none-the-less, due to the fact that your dealer suggested a complete new motor. That's your ammo if you intend to sue. What you do with the money afterwards is your business...

Fearless, you got banged hard. Shortblock's $2100, Head's another $2300 or so. If you payed 7K then that's well over MSRP.

392730 001 1 ENGINE ASSY., BLOCK NO COLOR 2729.47 2047.11 Qty:
374097 002 1 GENERAL ASSY., CYLINDER HEAD NO COLOR 3183.98 2387.98 Qty:

Most of the time you just need a shortblock.

I agree with the people who say, get a second opinion on the engine. I'd put oil in it and drive it till it quits. You can't hurt it any more than it's been hurt and it may not have been hurt at all. Worst case, you need a shortblock.

As for compensation, if nothing's damaged, you deserve the tow and dealer assessment cost back. If the engine's damaged, jiffy should pay to fix it. You'll have a hard time after 2000 miles but, Jiffy has to fix shit all the time.

Only yesterday I found myself in a similar situation. The only difference is that, having heard the horror stories, I asked the tech to keep the old filter gasket so that I could send it off to be "analyzed". I am sorry for your experience, but I'm sure you will get the proper outcome.

Good luck.

With me it was a road trip after work...Work and night classes during the week kept me out from under the car.

I had something similar happen years ago, with a Fiat 2000 Spider. The dealer changed the oil and filter, and on the way to work the following day, the filter backed off and started spraying oil all over the motor. Like the OP, I stopped immediately, and had the car towed back to the dealer. They replaced the filter with a new one, put in a fresh load of oil, and the car was fine.

The fact that the OP had oil still leaking out after he stopped means that the car was not totally out of oil, and if there was nothing more than a momentary loss of pressure it's possible that the engine wasn't harmed at all. I'd put on a new filter, fill her up with oil, and start her up. If it didn't sound right or run right, then I'd get worried.

Yep. My uncle took his car in and the bastards didnt tighten up the oil filter enough so after the course of a few days, all the oil had leaked out and his motor seized up. He did get a new motor out of it as jiffy lube footed the bill

Now, it occasionally seems to me that the good folks on this forum are somewhat quick to criticize their fellow S2K owner, but this really takes the cake. It's not like the guy went 20K w/o a change, or used the wrong oil, or kept banging the idiot limiter - he went out and had appropriate maintenance performed, and now he's gotta defend himself against against a sleazy oil change shop AND you lot!
