Default Help! Water in exhaust I think..

Hey guys,

I had my car in the shop for about a week and I picked it up yesterday. And yesterday was the day after another crazy nyc snow storm and unfortunately on the way back home I was stuck in the street in front of my house for 3 hours. (uneven road from people pushing snow into the streets made my S get stuck on top of a ice and couldn't move..)

Anyway, so the car was idling for a couple hours as I tried to dig myself out. Well later on i did finally manage to get out and noticed the exhaust had an unusual rasp. I have stock ap2 exhaust and it seemed to be louder than what i remembered. It also sounded like there was water gurgling inside the muffler so i revved to 8k once and shut the car off. Today I drove to school and back (3 mile round trip) and when I came home I heard more loud gurgling noise as the car idled.

The car hasn't been driven for more than like 15 minutes but it did sit idling for a long period of time yesterday. Is there water in my exhaust? The gurgling noise is pretty loud..and how do I get the water out? Do I just go on a long drive? Never had this problem so just wondering..could this also affect the performance of my car somehow? Thanks in advance..

well it really just sounds like water gurgling in a chamber...in this case i guess it's inside the mufflers...i guess the megan exhaust is easy to get the waters out because it's pretty much a straight pipe...but i think in the stock muffler there are chambers so i dono if the water would escape that easily..

just run it for a while. just so you know, your catalytic converter converts unburnt fuel into CO2 and water. so basically, if your car has a cat, it'll have water (ok fine water vapor) in the exhaust. thats why you see water dripping out of cars sometimes. dont freak out.

so you have water in your exhaust... ok cool story bro

Every time i wash my car i stick the hose in there and fill them both up. I have invidia, the only reason i do it because of the loudness afterwards, but it goes away after 20-30 mins and 2-3 times 9k rpm, i don't have any problems. On the plus side it cleans out all the carbon build up in there.

Run your car for 30 minutes and any water will evaporate out.

I have also hosed water into my exhaust as well and its pretty harmless as long as you run in for long enough to evaporate the water.
