Help with vtec
Hello all,
Currently I have about 1,700 mi on my car, I have vtec a few times (three bars, oil level OK), however it didn't feel noticeable. So I took the car to my dealer, the technician test drove and checked with a device. They said that the vtec does engage at 7,000rpm even though you can only feel a little bit. They also told me that I should feel more as I put more mileage on the car. Shouldn't the vtec kick in at around 6000-65000 rpm? Also, I have ridden in my friend's S (stock) with about the same mileage and the vtec felt lot more pronounced.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

I have to agree with what's been posted above. The VTEC transition has never been very noticable to me. But then I've never really mashed the pedal yet. There are few opportunities in LA traffic.

I've tried it a couple of times just easing it about 6K and it's negligible.
But once I was turning right out of a driveway on a very busy main multi-lane highway, and I needed to be in the left turn lane pretty quickly. There was a small break in traffic, and I hit it. I wasn't even thinking about VTEC -- I was just thinking about where I needed the car to be.....WOW!... So THAT's what VTEC feels like!
So VTEC seems to be smart enough to know whether you really need it or not.

My experience has been that (1) I feel LESS VTEC transition when I mesh the pedal from standing stop to redline...while (2) I feel MORE VTEC transition when I mesh the pedal after I "hold it" steady around 5500 rpm while moving.
My "theory" is that my butt gets used to the "motion" when I'm going from 0 mph to wherever 1 gear tops-off continuously when I do (1), hence, less feel of VTEC transition. It seems like most of us agree?
But lately it seems like my "butt" is getting way too smart...for some reason, I feel like I'm getting weaker and weaker VTEC kicks ?!

Mine kicks in at 6K but it's not all that noticable. You can hear a slight difference but not much seat of the pants difference. People rave about it like it's a turbo kicking in or something. I've never driven a VTEC car that feels like a turbo kicking in. You can't feel or even hear it kick in on an NSX.
