Unhappy HELP - Salvage 01 s2000 with comptech sc

This past weekend looked at an 01 s2000 with a comptech sc. Very low mileage, pristine looking, priced right to sell from a private owner who owns a business, etc. etc. yada yada. Stated looking for quick cash. Was sending a check today and called the seller to tell him he would be receiving a UPS package with sales agreement, etc. Seller tells me he wants to disclose something... "Disclose".. this is never a good word... Tells me the car was in a flood at his house and has a salvage title... continues that he was paid by the insurance company for the car, then purchased the car back from the insurance company. I was mortified. I know I asked if the title was clean or I would not have driven 130 miles to see the car. He also made a point of stating that the car was never in an accident... which is, afterall, true. Point here: Shame on me for not doing a carfax. Continuing, he further indicated he did not place the online ad, that it was placed by an employee and only saw the ad today. Stated he was upset that the ad did not indicate that the title was salvage. All that said, in his defense, unless MD law states otherwise, I suppose he did not have to disclose this information; especially considering that I was was trusting and willing to write a personal check ahead of receiving the title (in an effort to expidite the transaction, allowing the check to clear, while making train or air reservations to pick the car up and drive it back asap)

So, to my questions: Would one consider purchasing a flooded vehicle, particularly a sports car and one with a SC? (My gut feeling is, not in a million years) 2. If the answer is somehow yes, how low should the car be priced considering a flood salvage title? Thanks in advance.

As long as it drives well, i say there is nuthing to worry about...

It's like all these s2k's that get salvaged because they get their seats, rims stolen and a slashed top... Allot of people get their s2k's salvaged because of that... Is that a valid reasion not to buy one???

No, that is not a good reason not to buy one. However, a flood damaged car is a good reason to stay away.

Are you the seller?

Anyway, I'm curious. Why are you purchasing a s/c'd S2000. Why not get the same year and do it yourself? Am not swaying you away but I would just like to know the reasoning.

lol, no... I'm a member under a different name, just cant log in right now... I'm just talking from experience... My car got slavaged from theft, And I got all the used parts replaced with new stuff. But it got salvaged. It's bullshit to know I'm going to loose 30% of the value of my car when aboslutely nothing happend to it besides getting new stuff in it because some pucks wanted my seats.

Sold my 95 NSX (second one) and 91 Alfa spider (2nd one again)... )what can I say, I also re-date women too...) last summer and am looking for a "tweener" something between the 2 cars in price and performance that I can drive every day (live in Philly) and enjoy... my best friend has an 00 and while I like it, I never quite took to lower torque (of course, that is purely subjective, so no yelling at me). I figured an SC'd s2000 would provide the extra torque to make me happy... which it did in driving this particular car, a nice kick at that mid RPM range... As far as why I would not do it myself, there are 2 reasons: 1. I have no technical skills whatsoever.... 2. When putting mods on our cars, it's for "us, the owner", but when it comes to selling, rarely does one get the money invested, hence my wishing to purchase a car with an SC installed.

Of course, now I am steamed I am ready to buy an 04 (increased torque I believe) and put my own SC on ; ) So again, is there a price you guys would be willing to part with to take a chance on such a car? How low would you have to go to feel like "ok, if shite happens it happens?" The seller was asking 21,500, which I see is crazy considering the history in looking at cars with SC's in the sales area of this site that are clean.
