HELP: S2K Purchase Procedure
I was planning on getting an S2000 the following spring. Been saving up money for it and I think I should have enough to put some down and finance it pretty aggressively.
At least that was my plan, I was just wondering if thats a good idea. I really don't know how to go about buying the car because of:
1. By spring, will they still be avaiable?
I guess if I get on the waiting list for a blue S2K, by spring they might all be sold out. And who knows if they are gonna make them for Year 2003. Im getting a feeling that its either this summer/fall or never.
2. How long is the waiting list in the north-east area?
If I were to go into the dealship and say, I want a Blue on Black tomorrow, how long would I have to wait to actually get one?
3. Should I anticipate a below MSRP price if I were to get on such a waiting list? and about How Much is

Expect MSRP ($32,700) to be the lowest you will get the car for. The guys that went to Japan report that Honda says there are no plans on ending the production of the S2000 anytime in the future. I wouldn't expect you would have to wait any more than 2 - 3 months for the car, although I may be wrong there as I got one that was overlooked on the content list for that delivery .....I wouldn't worry much about getting the color you want, you shouldn't have too much of a problem with that, and if you do, settle for what you can get, because after all, it is still an S2000 no matter which color
Best of luck to you & I hope you enjoy it when you finally get it

What im particularly worried about is that once I DO have enough money to go ahead and get the car, which will be spring, it will probably be the slump for production, cause thats when the 2002 models will be selling out and the 2003 models comming in soon. What im scared of is that if they decide not to make the 2003 models, i will be screwed.
How high is the downpayment?

Vano,
My guess is that late winter will be the best time, in terms of price, to buyy an s2000 in the NE. Don't worry they will keep making them for the forseeable future- production/sales numbers continue to increase somewhat- there are threads on this if you do a search. How much to put down, well that depends. For the very best deal, I'd line up finacing with an outside lendor ahead of time (preapproval). With my bank, by putting down 20%, I saved .5% in interest. You might even wait until you're ready to buy before comitting, although you could go ahead and lock in MSRP and your color preference now, if you prefer. There are lots of threads on purchase advice here.
Good luck!

Honda does plan to produce the S2000 well into the future, despite dealership claims. They are just putting pressure on you to "buy now". As for the down payment, well you should think about how much you can afford to pay each month for the monthly payments and how good or bad (no offense) your credit history is. Normally you should pay around 20% for a down payment.
