Help!!!! Replacing Cylinder Head -- Need Advice
2000 S2000 with 54K Miles. Blew the motor. Specifically, Bent a valve which caused all kinds of trouble. Hondacare (extended warranty) says I must have over-revved it by mis-shifting, etc. I can't recall having done that but I'm havin' a hell of a time fighting city hall.
Honda is gonna replace the Short Block and pistons, etc. But they say I'm stuck replacing the everything above that like the cylinder head.
Dealer has given me a price of $4500 to replace everything above the short block...Cylinder Head, Valves, Rocker Arms, Cams, etc. Even for a costly repair, this seems really costly to me. I've read some of the other posts regarding similar repairs but have seen very little about price. Am I crazy...Am I stuck???
Any thoughts on where I might be able to buy the OEM parts myself and save on dealer markup??? Any thoughts on perhaps aftermarket performance parts??? Any thoughts at all that can help me get through this in one piece (my wife's ready to shoot somebody) would be very much appreciated.

I would ask to see the heads themselves. As Sideways said, it could've been a bad retainer. Also, check for worn valve guides or even a worn valve seat. They wouldn't directly cause piston/valve contact, but they could wear down the springs, valve stem (it's possible to stretch the neck), followers, etc. if that valve isn't sliding smooth and straight in those guides. Your keepers may also have gone bad...
If you did float a valve, you should check the tension on whichever valve(s) contacted the piston.
