Default Help: Out of State Purchase Question

I am looking at several options of obtaining my s2k and 1 of them would be to purchase out of state and truck it back to California.

Do you pay state taxes both at the dealership as well as California?

What are the paperwork involved in getting it here?

No, you would only pay tax in Calif. Most of the paper work would be done by you @ the DMV so make your apt. You will a have to get it smog'ed then registered.

If you have ever bought a car for a person (not a dealer) and registered it, it is the same.

I brought my car in from Oregon. After getting a smog certificate, the rest of the registration process at the DMV was easy. Taxes were just in California. A temporary permit was issued to drive the car from Oregon to California to get it registered.

Thanks for the info. It seems like there isn't much of a hassle involved at all. With the extremely elevated markup here in the bay area, if I'm unable to get something close to MSRP here, I'd definitely go and get the car out of state.
What are some things that I should check for when purchasing out of state? How do I ensure that I'm getting a "good" car?
Thanks a lot.

If it has less than 10 miles on it and it's an S2000, it's a good car.
