Default Help needed on Wheels!!

I ordered a set of Enkie RPM2 17" with 45mm offset and wondered if anyone knew if a set of 245 40 R17 tires will rub on the rear.

Thanks,

Dewain

I don't think that will work. Your wheel will be 20mm closer to the strut housing on the rears. Your rim width is the same as stock, but your offset is 20mm less than stock. BTW Did you order narrower rims for the front? or the same size all around?

You're not going to be able to fit a 245mm tire on a 7-7.5-inch wheel so I trust you bought the 17x8. Even then, it's not really a great fit since you're losing 5mm by placing a tire normally fitted on an 8.5-inch width wheel (for spec measurement) on an 8-inch wheel. As a result of putting it on a wheel one-half inch narrower, you lose 5mm of tread width. Go to the Tire and Wheel forum and read the note thread at the top....it's a good place to start for new owners.

Actually, his wheel DIAMETER is the same as stock but the width of the wheel we don't know. Using my handy tire/wheel calculator:
http://gs.tolan-hoechst.com/tirecalc.htm if he's using a 17x8 wheel then the rears will be just over an inch outboard so he can technically go there and won't rub as long as he doesn't lower the car. Not the best set-up for optimim handling but fine for "cruising." The strut clearance from the wheel will actually increase by 7mm, not decrease.

The width of the back wheel ordered was 17x8 w/ 45mm offset. The fronts were ordered 17x7 offset of 38 I believe. I just went to look and they have been sent back. Rear tires looked to small at 245 40 R17 for the rear. I am trying another set of wheels, but looking for a wheel that is offered in 17" staggerd width and an offset of at least 55-65 for the rear. Any suggestions?

Later,

Dewain

DeWain, hit the regulars up in the Tire and Wheel forum for recommendations. You can always start with Tire Rack and go from there. Importhookup.com is also a good wheel joint for the expensive alloys.
