He didn't say how much the deposit amount was. If it was over $500 there is a danger there and he should proceed with caution.

This scam has been pulled with cars, bikes, electronics and many more. The buyer leaves a deposit (buyer always is international) then vanishes. The buyer then waits and collects the returned deposits of those who are kind enough to send it. This almost always happens within 4 weeks.

Caution is always advised when dealing internationally. It is a sad fact of life in this day and age.

1) Ample time has past without contact from the buyer that you should proceed with the sale of the car to someone else.

2) The deposit was a guarantee against the sale of the car to the buyer that placed the deposit. Did the buyer satisfy their end of the transaction?

3) The return of any deposit is purely at the discretion of the seller. If you incurred expenses related to the sale then I would not be inclined to return the depost. If you wanted to be a good guy you could subtract the expenses and return the remainder, but only after you have confirmation that the funds are legitimate.

The buyer needs to learn the lesson, follow through or don't waste the seller's time. Extraordinary circumstances can occur, this is why communication is necessary.

Sell the car to one of your waiting people - no sense dragging out the sale if the guy can't come up with the cash or isn't contacting you - that is costing YOU money.

Give the deposit back if he asks, but it's been 2 weeks and you haven't heard anything from him. Money talks, so sell it to the next person in line
