If the car has flood insurance, a hydrolock is considered flood damage and thus the insurance will pay for it. Happened to my friend's evo 9 MR with 4000 miles on the clock. The only catch for him was that the title was made salvage after it for some reason.

His current motor is broken because of a CAI. If the other engine runs, it's more than equivalent.
Really, if they pull the head and inspect the retaininers and cylinders, then it's as good as you can expect (and much better than a lot of AP1s running around out there).

I'd love to hear the story you gave the insurance company I really hope they catch you for defrauding them...and this guy has the balls to want a new engine
